What is Collocation?
A collocation is a pair or group of words that are often used together. It is important for English learners to learn this part of vocabulary in order to make them use or speak English naturally.
Which one do you think is correct?
fast cars or quick cars?
antique monuments or ancient monuments?
make a mistake or do a mistake?
Fast cars, ancient monuments and make a mistake are the correct words for each choice above.
Although people will understand what you mean but using the right words will make your English sound natural.
Now, let's take a look at each number below. Which sentence is correct?
1. A. I was bitterly disappointed when I failed the exam.
B. I was deeply disappointed when I failed the exam.
2. A. They have made some changes.
B. They have done some changes.
3. A. The flood made some damage to our house.
B. The flood did some damage to our house.
4. A. His face went red when he smiled.
B. His face got red when he smiled.
5. A. The film finished with the hero dying.
B. The film ended with the hero dying.
